Because of a shed’s overall small size, the location of the doors and windows is critically important. Windows should be planned to allow maximum view and ventilation, when necessary, since a small building can become hot inside very quickly when exposed to direct sunlight during the day.

Likewise, a small building like your shed can lose its heat very quickly during the cool months of the year, so it’s important to plan for the right size and location of doors to ensure that, if heated, your shed retains heat and discourages drafts. In cool climates, it may be necessary to plan for insulated windows and doors. Of course, if you plan to store oversized equipment or vehicles in your shed, you should plan to use a door large enough to accommodate such items.
